Below are the materials and associated supports and resources for the 2020/2021 Subject CPD day. A video guide and summary provide an overview of the content, messages and discussion points, at the beginning of each section.
In session one we consider how our approach to teaching and learning can help students to engage with the aims of the Junior Cycle History Specification over three years. We explore the dual approach to assessment and take the opportunity to see how the SEC sample paper is similarly aligned with the knowledge, understanding, skills and values of the learning outcomes in the History specification. A selection of supports can be accessed when you click on the image of the Padlet at the top of this website page on Session one.
In session two we build on the learning from session one to develop our skills to create assessment for Junior Cycle History students. We consider factors to bear in mind when selecting historical sources for the design of effective assessments. You can access a range of JCT designed supports when you click on the image of the Padlet at the top of the website page on Session two.
We explore the value of collaborative communities in Junior Cycle History in co- creating supports for teachers and three videos provide insights into the purpose and types of communities of practice. You will have an opportunity to reflect on different teaching and learning scenarios from Junior Cycle History and how a community of practice can help your engagement with these types of scenarios in your classroom. A range of JCT supports are available when you click on the image of the Padlet at the top of the website page under Session three.
